Presto DVD, Blu Ray Packaging machine can now use printer grade paper.
DMA has made a break through by now enabling the use of printer produced slip sheets. When duplicators / replicators order thousands of print shop slip sheets the price comes down to a few cents per sheet. However this per sheet cost is usually about 30 cents for a quantity of a few hundred. In house printing on regular good quality, yet porous paper, yields excellent looking slip sheets at a few cents for one or many copies. The porous nature of the paper lets the suction through and not one, but many, sheets are drawn through at a time. This causes an immediate jam up. Glossy, coated paper is non porous and works just fine in packaging machines. However, should glossy paper be printed in a laser printer, the glossy coating sticks to the hot section roller and quickly destroys this very costly part. Up till now this has been an impossible situation where glossy paper does not work in laser printers and regular paper does not work in packaging machines. Also, important to note, the cost per sheet for coated paper is many times higher than non coated regular printer paper.
DMA has made a breakthrough by using a principal used in aircraft wings. This is non contact, and moves a high volume of air at low pressure, picking off only the top sheet of a stack of porous paper. This opens a niche market for small runs from one to a few thousand. This break through is equally important for "on demand" production where every slip sheet is potentially different.
